The device is the first to utilise Xerox's patented solid ink technology within a multifunction unit. This results in a combination of multifunction benefits - more space, reduced maintenace costs - along with all the benefits of solid ink technology.
One of the most groundbreaking new features is the hybrid colour plan, which analyses what you are printing and only charges for the amount of color printed onto the page. Print jobs are split into three categories: useful, when the content is mostly black and white; everyday, for general color printing, and expressive, for vibrant and detailed color pages. There is only one customer replaceable component, the drum maintenance unit. Unlike expensive laser toners which must be replaced regularly, the drum maintenance unit lasts for a massive 250,000 impressions.
The benefits of solid ink extend are also environmental. Printing 22k pages over a 4 year lifetime, the ColorQube would need 99 items that weigh 110kg. A comparable multifunction laser printer would need 225 items that weigh 438kg. This would also result in the CQ creating 40kg of waste compared to 370kg. In fact the ColorQube uses 9% less lifecycle energy and produces 10% fewer greenhouse gases than a comparable laser device.The color cubes themselves are non-toxic and completely safe to handle.
The device has been awarded the coveted 2009 ENERGY STAR award for reduced power consumption, partly because the intelligent ready power saver mode continuously monitors output to reduce electricity costs whilst keeping the device ready to print in an instant. An integrated scan-to-email system also prevents paper wastage, and helps you get the information you need quickly and easily, which can be modified and forwarded in an instant.
